Our first day in Boston was so epic that it needs to be split into two posts!
First up: the morning in Beacon Hill and the Charles River Esplanade.
Following days of rain we were thrilled to have perfect fall weather for our first day in Boston – sunshine, blue skies, and cool air. Perfection! We had a long Boston itinerary ahead of us so we parked in the Boston Common Garage, taking the rest of the day on foot from this central location.
First up on this lovely Saturday morning was a stroll through Beacon Hill. Oh, my! Boston, you immediately won me over! Every corner of this lovely neighborhood is divine with vintage brick buildings, cobblestone, and oodles of charm. The boys loved how the residents decorated for Halloween and we could only imagine that this must be THE neighborhood in Boston on Halloween night!
We strolled up and town the charmingly narrow streets, down Chestnut and Mount Vernon, around Louisburg Square, and iconic Acorn Street. There, we found a photographer in the middle of a photoshoot. The lovely photographer immediately took a break and asked if we would like a photo taken. I’m not sure people understand how much this means to a mom, but I am eternally grateful for photos of all four of us on vacation like this!
We eventually meandered our way from Beacon Hill over to the riverfront and the Boston Esplanade Playspace. The boys have nearly outgrown playgrounds, so I was thrilled to find this great one while they’re still interested. It features high slides, rope climbing webs, and a very unique wood log climbing structure.
After some playtime, we just sat on a dock overlooking the river. My vacation style is just go-go-go so learning to stop and sit, and not always rush to the next place on the itinerary is still something new to me. Sitting on that rock, soaking up the sun with the cool breeze, watching the sailboats, and just enjoying this spectacular day in a new city is one of my strongest memories of Boston.
Our stomachs started growling so we were on our feet again, making our way towards Boston Common, passing the famous Cheers bar along the way, and end up at our lunch destination…. On to part 2!
