The value resorts at Disney World are the lowest price level for Disney hotels and our go-to choices as a family with school age kids. All value resorts come with the same standard Disney resort perks – free transportation to the parks, free Magical Express airport transportation, 60-day advance FastPass reservations, wonderful Disney customer service you expect (from my experience, even BETTER than deluxe in some cases), and the benefit of never leaving the Disney Bubble.

Disney World Resort Hotel Guide

Don’t miss my complete Disney World Resort Hotel Guide for Families of 4 with recommendations for Value Resorts, Moderate Resorts, and Deluxe Resorts.

Value resorts do have their drawbacks, of course. While higher priced family suites are available at two value resorts, standard rooms all have just two beds so the kids have to share. The pools are basic and do not have water slides or spas. The rooms at Disney value resorts do not have private outdoor space and the noise level depends on room location within the resort.

For the price, the values are … a great value! I never hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

Here’s how we break down each value resort at Disney World:

Disney's All-Star Movies Resort refurbished room

Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort

There are three All-Star Resorts side-by-side – Movies, Music, and Sports – and our experience is mostly with All-Star Movies. All three resorts have identical rooms apart from wall art and a similar outdoor theming concept with oversized characters. The execution of these themes is obviously different depending on the resort – large sports icons at All-Star Sports, movie characters at All-Star Movies, and so on.

Of the three, only All-Star Movies has begun room refurbishments and, as of April 2019, exactly half of the resort (both preferred and standard room categories) have been refurbished. For this reason, we absolutely recommend Movies over Music and Sports as we love the refurbished rooms. Only the refurbished rooms have queen beds while all others have doubles. The refurbished rooms at All-Star Movies are very similar to the rooms at Pop Century with only minor color and cosmetic differences. Refurbished rooms are not a separate price point so you cannot specifically reserve one (although you may request one on your reservation, but that is not a guarantee) and could end up with an “old” room.

The All-Stars are in the Animal Kingdom Resort Area and are the closest resorts to Animal Kingdom aside from Animal Kingdom Lodge.

Peace and quiet can vary. These resorts can be filled with teenagers during Pop Warner week in early December and during dance and cheerleading competitions in the winter. Check the events calendar at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex if this is a concern for you. However, these groups are usually clustered together and Disney reservationists recognize that families on vacation may not want to be near these groups and assign rooms accordingly. Otherwise, All-Star Movies has been a surprisingly quiet resort in our experiences staying in three different sections.

Overall, All-Star Movies is a resounding YES for us and, once all renovations are complete and there is a 100% chance of having a refurbished room, it might be our top Disney value resort pick!

All Star Music Resort

Disney’s All-Star Music Resort

Refurbishments have yet to begin at Disney’s All-Star Music Resort so the current rooms with two double beds means a big NO in these recommendations.

All-Star Music is the only All-Star resort with an entire section devoted to family suites. These are twice the size of normal rooms with two full bathrooms, a small kitchenette with microwave and refrigerator, and multiple pull-out sleeping surfaces. That amount of space is too much for our family’s needs and way too many convertible beds for our liking, but the All-Star Music family suites are definitely an appealing option for families of more than four on a budget. These family suites have similar features to the popular Art of Animation family suites at a lower price.

T+S Deal Breakers

  • Budget-Friendly – the All-Stars have the lowest Disney resort pricing

  • Peace and quiet – YES, but can depend on location and time of year
  • Comfortable sleeping space for 4 – double beds

Extra Resort and Room Features

  • Table with chairs

  • 3rd sleeping space
  • Fun pool
  • Private outdoor space
  • Close proximity to at least one park

Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort

Like All-Star Music, Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort also fails to meet our sleeping space requirement with two double beds in each room.

On the plus side, Sports reportedly has the best bus service of the three All-Star Resorts as it’s the first to load when the resorts are sharing a bus.

T+S Deal Breakers

  • Budget-Friendly – the All-Stars have the lowest Disney resort pricing

  • Peace and quiet – YES, but can depend on location and time of year

Art of Animation resort

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

Despite being a “value resort,” the majority of the rooms at Art of Animation are family suites that more accurately compare in price to moderate resorts and even low-end deluxe resorts.

Family suites are twice the size of regular rooms and have three sleeping spaces – a bedroom with a queen bed, a pull down murphy bed, and a sofa bed. So, yes, this meets our bed requirement, but just barely since one is a sofa bed (cringe) and the lovely table for four is unusable when the murphy bed is open. That means the kids need to convert their beds every day if the dining table and lounging sofa are to be used.

On the plus side, the Art of Animation family suites have two full bathrooms. Not sharing a bathroom with the kids while on vacation is probably the best perk of these rooms!

One of the four sections at the resort – the Little Mermaid area – has standard hotel rooms with two queen beds. The Little Mermaid section is the longest walk to the pool and bus station, and the rooms themselves simply aren’t nearly as nice as the refurbished rooms at Pop Century and All-Star Movies which have lower rates. If your child is a huge Little Mermaid fan, these rooms may be appealing, but don’t make a special effort to stay there if not.

The Big Blue Pool is large with fantastic Finding Nemo theming and underwater speakers, but no slides or spas. However, the splash pad is our favorite of any Disney resort hotel. Additionally, there are two quiet pools themed to Cars and The Little Mermaid.

When considering only theming, this is a wonderful resort, especially for families with kids who love Cars, Finding Nemo, or the Lion King. The colors are bright and there are photo ops everywhere. Even if you do not stay at Art of Animation, it’s definitely worth the trip there just to walk the grounds.

Ultimately, Art of Animation gets a NO from us. It’s very busy and loud. Rooms with similar sleeping arrangements can be found for similar prices at other resorts without needing to convert beds every day. For the same price, get two connecting rooms at Pop Century with four queen beds and still enjoy the Art of Animation grounds just a quick walk across the lake!

T+S Deal Breakers

  • Comfortable sleeping space for 4 – queen bed, murphy bed, sofa bed in family suites; 2 queen beds in Little Mermaid rooms
  • Budget-Friendly – closer to high moderate and low deluxe pricing
  • Peace and quiet

Extra Resort and Room Features

  • 3rd sleeping space
  • Table with chairs – Yes, but unusable when murphy bed is open

  • Fun pool – Best-themed value resort main pool despite not having a slide

  • Close proximity to at least one park – No, but will have SkyLiner service to Epcot and Hollywood Studios later in 2019
  • Private outdoor space

Disney's Pop Century Resort

Disney’s Pop Century Resort

The entire Pop Century Resort completed room refurbishments in 2018 and the new rooms with queen beds are highly recommended. They are very similar to the All-Star Movies refurbished rooms with one standard queen bed and one queen-size murphy bed. Both are equally comfortable. In fact, when we stay Pop Century, Mom and Dad actually take the murphy bed since the kids have so many lovies and blankets that can’t easily be stored elsewhere in the room when the bed is closed.

Pop Century is currently my TOP DISNEY VALUE RESORT PICK. Since the entire resort is refurbished, two queen beds are assured. All-Star Movies typically runs $10-$20 less per night, but until the refurbishment there is complete, a renovated room isn’t guaranteed.

T+S Deal Breakers

  • Budget-Friendly
  • Comfortable sleeping space for 4 – 2 queen beds
  • Peace and quiet – YES, but depends on room location

Extra Resort and Room Features

  • Table with chairs
  • Close proximity to at least one park – No, but will have SkyLiner service to Epcot and Hollywood Studios later in 2019

  • 3rd sleeping space

  • Fun pool

  • Private outdoor space
