If you want to avoid waiting in the longest lines at Disney World, FastPass Plus planning is essential. Disney hotel guests can begin making FastPass+ reservations 60 days before their trip begins while everyone else can begin reserving FastPass+ 30 days in advance. So, what kind of FastPass availability can you expect in 2020 for the most popular Disney World attractions?

In this blog post, I’m going to share my experiences and observations with Disney FastPass availability for a spring 2020 trip. What you read here should be accurate FastPass availability expectations for your Disney World trip through the summer of 2020.

[The Basics] Disney FastPass Plus 2020 Availability

First, let’s quickly cover a few Disney World FastPass+ basics before moving on to FastPass availability for your 2020 trip.

Disney FastPass+ is a FREE service that gives you access to shorter lines at select Disney World attractions. For each day of your trip, you may pre-book FastPass+ reservations for 3 attractions at a single park.

Only a limited number of FastPass+ reservations are available for each attraction every day, so availability will run out for the most popular attractions.

Make FastPass+ reservations from the Disney World website or the My Disney Experience mobile app.

If you are staying at an on-site Disney World hotel, your FastPass+ booking window for your entire trip opens 60 days in advance at 7:00 AM Eastern Time.

The most difficult FastPass+ reservations to book in 2020 are Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. If you want FastPass+ for any of these rides, schedule your Hollywood Studios and/or Animal Kingdom park days latest in your trip (at least day 3 or later on your park ticket). Do not expect to see FastPass+ available for these attractions on day 1 or day 2 of your park ticket when booking 60 days in advance.

If you want to ride Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway with FastPass+, this should be the first FastPass reservation you attempt to book at 7:00 AM on the morning that your booking window opens since they’re snatched up quickly. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway likely will not have FastPass+ availability until day 4 of your ticket and probably not an early-ish time around noon until day 6.

Elsewhere at Hollywood Studios, FastPass availability for Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Slinky Dog Dash may only be found in the evening on day 2, with more times available on the afternoon of day 3.

All Animal Kingdom attractions should have availability every day of your trip except for Flight of Passage. Don’t expect FastPass+ availability until day 3.

At Magic Kingdom, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train may only have evening or no availability on day 1, but should have reservation times on the remaining days. Peter Pan’s Flight may only have afternoon FastPass times on day 1, but you see lots of choices for this and all other attractions (including the three “mountains”) on every day of your trip.

All Epcot attractions, including Frozen Ever After, should have ample availability for every day of your trip so Epcot should be the last park FastPasses that you book.

If you are staying at a hotel off Disney World property, you can begin pre-booking FastPass+ reservations 30 days in advance at 7:00 AM Eastern.

At 30 days out, expect FastPass+ times for these popular attractions to be gone since they will have already been taken by guests staying on-site who reserved FastPass+ a month earlier:

  • Magic Kingdom: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
  • Hollywood Studios: Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Slinky Dog Dash
  • Animal Kingdom: Flight of Passage

[Beyond the Basics] FastPass Plus Availability at Disney World in 2020

When your “FastPass day” arrives, be ready on both the Disney World desktop website and the Disney app right at 7:00 AM Eastern Time. I’ve always had more success with the website since the app will be slower and will often time out at peak usage times so keep both open and ready to go at 7:00 AM.

FastPass+ reservations are usually taken by guests in order, so the earliest times are typically taken first each day. Morning FastPass+ return times are gone first, followed by afternoon, and then evening FastPass+ reservations are the last left. As you continue reading, this is why an attraction with only evening FastPass+ return times remaining on a particular day is considered to have low availability.

Flight of Passage FastPass

Disney FastPass Planning for off-site guests

If you are staying at a hotel outside of Disney World, purchase your park tickets at least 30 days before the first day of your trip and link them to your My Disney Experience account. You will be able to begin booking FastPass+ reservations 30 days in advance and continue logging in each morning to make reservations one day of your trip at a time.

These expectations and observations are based on several days of data collection. Of course, your experience may differ, but these is typical FastPass+ availability you should expect in 2020.

At 30 days out, expect FastPass+ availability for several popular attractions to be none since they will have already been taken by guests staying on-site at Disney World resort hotels who reserved FastPass+ a month earlier. Don’t fret, though. Beyond these few ultra-popular rides, there should still be plenty of FastPass+ availability for most attractions 30 days before your trip.

Magic Kingdom FastPass+ availability will be ample for most rides due to the sheer number of attractions at this park that are FastPass-enabled. Don’t plan on getting Seven Dwarfs Mine Train FastPass, although you may find a random time if you log on precisely at 7:00 AM. All other rides should be available. Peter Pan’s Flight will like show no morning availability while Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Space Mountain may only have FastPass times beginning in the early afternoon as well. All others will likely have availability starting with early morning times.

Epcot will have the most FastPass+ availability 30 days in advance. Expect to find FastPass+ times for all rides and attractions at the park including Frozen Ever After, Test Track, and Soarin’. You may only see afternoon times for Frozen Ever After, but expect desirable FastPass+ reservation times to still be available.

Hollywood Studios is where you will have the most difficulty getting FastPass+ reservations. However, even Disney World hotel guests making reservations 60 days in advance will be having trouble, so you won’t be alone! FastPass+ availability for Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run, and Slinky Dog Dash will be gone. The remaining rides in Toy Story Land, Alien Swirling Saucers and Toy Story Mania, will likely only have evening return times, but they’ll go quickly so you’ll need to grab those right at 7:00 AM at 30 days out. All other attractions and shows should have availability.

Animal Kingdom FastPass+ reservations for Flight of Passage will be gone 30 days in advance, but all other attractions should have availability, mostly before noon. Na’vi River Journey and Kilimanjaro Safari are the possible exceptions and expect early afternoon return times for those rides.

For all of your 30-day FastPass folks, it’s extremely important to grab your reservations precisely at 7:00 AM when the reservation window opens. The difference in FastPass+ availability between 7:00 AM and just a few minutes later at 7:05 AM on the same day can be significant. In my research, Toy Story Mania and Alien Swirling Saucers FastPasses at Hollywood Studios often disappear entirely by 7:05 AM. Earliest reservation times at Peter Pan’s Flight, Space Mountain, and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad can change by as much as 2 hours if you wait just a few minutes to book. A FastPass+ return time that was available at 2:00 PM can be 3:45 PM just five minutes later. As discussed in my Disney World FastPass+ Tips and Guide, you should try to get your three pre-booked FastPass times as early in the day as possible so you can continue grabbing additional FastPass+ reservations one at a time for the rest of the day.

FastPass Plus Availability 60 Days in Advance

The FastPass+ booking window for guests staying on-site at a Disney World hotel is 60 days before the first night of the hotel reservation. At 7:00 AM Eastern Time 60 days in advance, you may make FastPass+ reservations for every day of your trip, unlike off-site guests who must log in daily, 30 days in advance of each trip day.

FastPass+ reservations will have greater availability on later days in your trip. For this reason, when you log on 60 days out, always aim for those most elusive attraction FastPasses first. Don’t make reservations in chronological order for your trip.

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway and Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom are the most difficult FastPass+ reservations to book in 2020. If you want FastPass+ for any of these rides, schedule your Hollywood Studios and/or Animal Kingdom park days latest in your trip (at least day 3 or later on your park ticket). Do not expect to see FastPass+ available for these attractions on day 1 or day 2 of your park ticket.

Going by FastPass+ availability of popular attractions alone, you should visit Epcot on the first day of your trip, Magic Kingdom on day 2, Animal Kingdom on day 3, and Hollywood Studios on day 4 with even later days preferable for Hollywood Studios if you are taking a trip longer than 4 days.

Hollywood Studios FastPass+ selection should be your priority. Specifically, Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway should be your top attempt at 7:00 AM on the morning that your booking window opens. Don’t expect FastPass+ availability until trip day 4 of your ticket and probably not an early time around noon until day 6. Morning FastPass+ times may only be available even later than that.

Next at Hollywood Studios, Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Slinky Dog Dash will be difficult to get with late evening availability on day 2 of your trip likely, but better FastPass+ availability on the afternoon of day 3. Don’t expect morning FastPass times for either attraction until day 5 or later. All other Hollywood Studios attractions should have availability on every day of your trip with Toy Story Mania and Alien Swirling Saucers being the next most difficult after the top three. Availability on trip day 1 for those may only be late afternoon or evening.

Animal Kingdom FastPass+ availability at 60 days out should be ample with Flight of Passage being the glaring exception. Don’t expect FastPass+ availability for Flight of Passage until the evening of day 2 or even day 3. All other attractions at Animal Kingdom should have FastPass+ availability starting in the morning for every other day of your trip.

Magic Kingdom FastPass+ planning is quite easy. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train may only have evening or no availability on trip day 1, but higher availability on the remaining days. Aside from day 1 FastPass+ times for Peter Pan’s Flight possibly being gone in the morning, all other attractions, including the three “mountains”, should have ample availability for every day of your trip.

Epcot is the Disney World park with the best FastPass+ reservation availability 60 days out. All attractions, including Frozen Ever After, will likely have plenty of availability on every day of your trip. This surplus of FastPass+ reservations means that Epcot days should be the last you attempt to book on “FastPass day” 60 days before your trip begins.
